Dearborn resident killed in Beirut terrorist attack

A woman who had hoped to settle her family in the Detroit area was among the dozens of victims killed in bombings in Lebanon.
Leila Mazloum was excited to have moved to Dearborn only months ago.
Mazloum was visiting her family in Lebanon in an effort to bring them back to the U.S.
She only recently became permanent resident. A daughter suffered minor injuries.
Her sister said Mazloum, 49, was shopping when the bombings occurred in a Beirut suburb.
News of the local casualties numbed Dearborn, where about 40 percent of residents are Arab Americans.
“I can’t believe what just happened”, said one of Mazloum’s sisters, Khawla Mazloum.
The Dearborn-based Islamic Center of America held a commemorative service in the three victims’ honor Friday afternoon, and a candlelight vigil was planned for Friday evening. The blasts killed at least 43 people and wounded at least 239 others. The Islamic State quickly claimed responsibility for the explosions.
