Second-round KO: Ronda Rousey suffers first defeat
Now that Rousey has lost her “donut” in the loss column, Helwani asked if this means she’s been exposed and that she’s not as great as everything may have thought. Rousey’s nose started bleeding after a series of punches from Holm and things never seemed to improve for Rousey after that.
Both Miesha Tate and Cris “Cyborg” Justino were quick to jump all over the ashes of Rousey’s unbeaten title reign following her defeat by Holly Holm in Australia, with Tate the first out of the blocks.
Holm, a former undisputed welterweight boxing champion, said the moment of her UFC title victory was “one of those moments that you live for”.
As for the loss, Dana White said Joe Rogan feels it was the biggest upset in UFC history, but White said Rousey deserves a rematch against Holm if she wants one.
Holm said after the fight that the win was just reward for her efforts in preparation. “There’s been a lot of blood, sweat and tears but it was all worth it”. F*** her and her “Nobody has the right to beat me”.
White said a rematch between Holm and Rousey made “a lot of sense” and would put other potential matchups on the backburner. “Obviously she’s completely bummed out and depressed”. According to ABC News, White also stated fans might see a rematch between the two in the future. She KO’d Rousey with a left kick to the face and the match was over.
Holm’s coach, Mike Winkeljohn, says Rousey didn’t necessarily err by rushing his charge in their UFC world title fight, but was simply beaten by an intellectually superior fighter in Melbourne.
She was an afterthought heading into the event.
Sick of people making such a big deal it was a simple mistake you can’t be running in on tall people someone in her camp left that out! “This fight was a lot for me mentally”, she added.
White said that while most onlookers were shocked by Rousey’s loss, he was not one of them. I have not spent this much time in the gym before any fight in my life…
The matchup didn’t earn Rousey any sportsmanship points either.
