G20 leaders vow to fight terror
“The entire humanity must stand together and be one against terrorism”.
Antalya: In its first communique on a political issue, leaders of the world’s richest and most powerful countries (G20), including Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday vowed to conduct joint action against growing global terrorism as well as choking terror financing channels.
“From regions in conflict to the streets of distant cities, terrorism extracts a deadly price”, he said in the wake of Friday’s deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that claimed 129 lives. But, we also see the changing character of terrorism: global links, franchise relations, home-grown terrorism and use of cyber space for recruitment and propaganda. We should also adopt a Comprehensive Convention on worldwide Terrorism without any delay. There should be no distinction between terrorist groups or discrimination between states.
“We are promoting growth and investing in skill to create employment for our youth; increasing the pace and quality of infrastructure expansion; and investing in making farms more productive and resilient”, he said. “Terrorism and Refugee Crisis”. Later, at the opening session of the summit, Modi said the G20 should consider how to build support systems that focus on countries with maximum growth potential, help address specific bottlenecks and facilitate implementation of country strategies. We need to delink terror and religion and work together to counter radicalization. It also has wide-ranging impact in receiving countries. The two Prime Ministers announced completion of procedures for the India Australia Civil Nuclear Agreement to bring the pact into force.
On Sunday, Modi also held bilateral meetings with Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk, on the sidelines of the two-day G20 Summit meeting.
The British leg of Modi’s tour included a packed itinerary that saw delegation level talks between India and Britain and one-on-one parleys between the Indian prime minister and his British counterpart David Cameron.
PM Modi thanked President Putin, the host for meeting and for hosting the summit in Russian Federation.
