Ronda Rousey announced for UFC 2 cover
Holly Holm a.k.a. The Preacher’s Daughter proved to be one of the best fighters Rousey has faced. In arguably the biggest fight of her career, she bombed.
And, of course, as she was kicked in the head causing her fall down on the floor, 34-year-old Holm received the belt.
Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) exited the octagon shortly after regaining consciousness following a Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) head kick in the second round.
Rousey left the stadium to receive treatment for a concussion and facial cuts at a hospital and didn’t attend the post-fight news conference. “We wanted her to put the pressure on and we worked a lot on range and footwork”, Holm added.
“Obviously, she’s completely bummed out and depressed, but that’s it”, UFC president Dana White said of Rousey, who went to the hospital after the fight.
Former Olympian Rousey’s coach made a statement following her loss, saying “That was a great test for her, and look at how she came back, she came back a multi-time world champion”.
Rousey, tagged the world’s most feared female prizefighter, was hospitalised after Holm sent her crashing to the canvas in the second round of their bout with a savage kick to her jaw.
“Getting in here, I just felt so much support”.
The fighter Saturday took to Instagram to bash Holm writing an expletive-filled rant: “Fake a- cheap shotting fake respect fake humility b–“. I’ve been on a losing side of a fight and I wanted the rematch; I wanted to avenge my loss.
“Glad to see @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night”. The fight saw Holm land more strikes on Rousey and she connected at a much higher percentage, with ESPN reporting that Holm hit on 72 percent of her strikes, while Rousey hit on just 30 percent.
