Gambit sets Doug Liman at the helm
It looks like Gambit finally has a director again, at least according to a report from Deadline, which confirms that Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) is in final discussions to take on the X-Men spin-off film starring Channing Tatum. Channing Tatum eyes Doug Liman to direct “Gambit”? His latest piece of directing that you’d know about was Tom Cruise’s futuristic respawning movie, Edge of Tomorrow. Those two movies are also famously known for having been troubled productions, with the films needing to be saved in post-production.
Though his place at the helm is yet to be formally confirmed, Liman has struck up a financially-sound working relationship with Fox in recent times, with Mr & Mrs Smith and Jumper earning sizeable chunks at the box office.
Liman would be replacing “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” director Rupert Wyatt, who exited the project back in September. Before Liman signed on, Joe Cornish, Shane Black and F. Gary Gray were all up for the job.
Tatum will both produce the movie and star as the titular hero.
With Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse headed our way next year, 2016 is looking much more exciting for the studio, and now there’s a chance they’ve solved their Gambit director problem.
There’s no news on the specific plot, but Josh Zetumer has written the script, which will concentrate on the mutant who, as Wikipedia says, ‘has the ability to mentally create, control, and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his desire.
