Retired Army colonel accused in Colorado trooper’s death
Authorities say a Colorado State Patrol trooper was killed when she was struck by a vehicle as she investigated an accident on an interstate near Denver. A trooper was outside of her auto helping with a crash investigation when she was hit by a vehicle.
The name of the trooper is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.
Henderson was arrested on charges including vehicular homicide, leaving the scene and driving under the influence.
The trooper who died has been identified as 33-year-old Jaimie Jursevics, according to a State Patrol news release Monday morning.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in the case.
The Colorado State Patrol posted a photo on Twitter of a law enforcement procession to escort the trooper’s body to the coroner’s office with the statement: “Tonight, the blue line got thinner”.
“A senseless act has taken the life of someone who swore to protect Colorado”.
“Henderson is the type of person that people want to follow”, retired Army Brig. “Eric never lost sight of that”.
Henderson was being held on $1 million bond, according to court records.
Story then awarded Henderson with the “Legion of Merit” for his long military career that included serving as chief of operations for the Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command in Colorado Springs, the article said.
