Transgender man Kayden Coleman’s ‘bloated’ belly is pregnancy – gives birth
As stated, the young transgender, was submitted to sex changing procedure which, among other things involved taking testosterones.
The back pains and painful bloating turned out to be something Kayden never planned on.
At first, he even joked he should get a pregnancy test when he was hit with the pain. “But I knew things would never be the same”.
The joke wasn’t too amusing as doctors confirmed a baby was on the way.
Today, Coleman and his husband Elijah are parents to 22-month-old Azaelia. How could we explain the baby when she popped up after a couple of months?’ However, at the time of conception, the transgender man had been off hormones in preparation of an upcoming mastectomy.
“I was shocked. It took a while to process it. But I was also busy figuring out how we could make things work in such a short space of time”, he said.
Pregnancy was not an easy one, as many neighbors and friends were not aware of Coleman being a transgender.
Coleman also got his share of awkward glances. I was so happy to finally see her face, ‘ said Kayden.
Kayden was forced to do just that once he learned he was pregnant. He was induced at nine months as he had high blood pressure, and was in labour for four days.
Elijah said Coleman even suffered postnatal depression for around a year.
To ease the burden, Coleman had to quit his job and Elijah worked longer hours to care for baby Azaelia.
“Now it feels great”.
Since his daughter has been born, Coleman has absolutely fallen in love with her. “I couldn’t imagine, and don’t want to imagine, life without her. She is unbelievable”, he said.
Though Coleman and Elijah didn’t seek massive publicity back in 2013, this isn’t the first “pregnant man” story to draw attention.
Though he’s thrilled to have Azaelia in his life, Kayden plans to have a hysterectomy surgery soon to prevent the chance of any future surprise pregnancies. I wasn’t around much and we don’t have family nearby, so it was really hard.
“Our children will not be any more confused or bullied about my being trans than any other kid is about something like having a single parent”.
Thomas Beatie, from OR holds that record. Known world-wide as “The Pregnant Man”, he announced his pregnancy in 2007. Beatie’s wife was infertile and he chose to help her overcome this by artificially inseminating himself.
