MetroPCS Ups Data Caps, Includes ‘Music Unlimited’
Eric Taylor and Blake Welsh found the bug in mid-October and shared it with Motherboard, who then confirmed the issue by running a Firefox plugin to send an HTTP request to MetroPCS’s website using a known phone number.
Popular services are supported by Music Freedom such as Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music, iHeartRadio and even Apple Music. To make that data work even harder, MetroPCS is introducing Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer. Nearly all video services – including YouTube, Netflix and Periscope feeds – can be streamed more efficiently. T-Mobile’s proprietary technology achieves this by optimizing streaming video for mobile device screens, maximizing resolutions at DVD or better quality while minimizing data consumption. In a new report from Motherboard, it was revealed that a pair of security researchers discovered a bug in the MetroPCS website that left data including customer’s addresses and their phone’s serial number exposed to cybercriminals. MetroPCS claims customers can watch up to three times more streaming video with Data Maximizer turned on.
MetroPCS is making a few upgrades to its single line plans, on top of the new features. The third adds more high-speed data to certain plans and raises the amount of data customers can use via a mobile hotspot.
With the new family plan rates, which include two or more lines, customers will get unlimited talk, text and data with 1 GB of LTE data with Data Maximizer for $25 per month; unlimited talk, text and data with 3 GB of LTE data with Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer for $35 per month; and unlimited talk, text and data with 5 GB of LTE data with Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer for $45 per month. Their $45/month plan brings you 5GB of high-speed data, along with Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer.
