French artists Peace for Paris symbol goes viral
People walk on the stairs of Trocadero with the Eiffel Tower on the background. I was trying to look for a symbol of Paris, and obviously the Eiffel Tower was the first thing that sprang to my mind. Both of my parents worked, and my nanny at the time did not know how to explain to me the horrific events that had just occurred. As far as Trump’s reaction to the November 13 terrorist attacks, he has chose to take what France 24 described as “a more diplomatic approach”. The picture, which was created with brush and ink, has been mistakenly attributed to everyone from Justin Bieber to, more infamously, Banksy.
Paris reopened many of its iconic tourist sites Monday following Friday’s bloody terror attacks that killed over 130 people.
A number of bands including U2 and the Foo Fighters have now cancelled shows in Paris and the rest of France out of solidarity with the victims.
In just hours, it was being printed on t-shirts, flags and banners.
A simple image shared by millions across social media: the combination of a peace sign and the Eiffel Tower.
The Instagram post on Friday evening garnered at least 129,000 likes, over 48,000 retweets on Twitter, as well as countless other uncredited shares.
When asked what he wanted to convey with his sketch, Jullien answered, “It’s a message of peace and solidarity”. Breen said a couple of dozen people showed up for the candlelighting and moment of silence. It has been shared across social media, displayed at vigils, and even scrawled on concrete in public spaces.
NBC’s “Undateable” actor Chris D’Elia and co-stars holding Jullien’s “Peace for Paris” illustration. “I believe we owe it to the victims of this act not to let the terrorists win by being terrorized”, he wrote.
It has become the symbol of hope at a time of horror – but the artist of the popular Peace for Paris image says he has no wish for fame.
“I’m sort of nearly embarrassed to be getting that much exposure as a result of such a tragic event”, Jullien told Wired.
“The Spanish model Seat vehicle was found in a suburb a few four miles east of Paris, matching the description of one used by a few of the attackers Friday night”, NPR’s Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson reports.
The attacks were claimed by Islamic State militants.
– Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy declared, “We are all France”, apparently echoing France’s support for the United States (“We are all Americans”) after 9/11.
“We (the U.S.) are in a better situation than France”, he said in a recent interview with the Australian, “but we’re not immune to it. So right now we want to be sure that all the intelligence gathering is firing on all cylinders”.
