Rahul Gandhi a British citizen, claims Swamy
He made these remarks in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and at a press conference but a scrutiny of documents available in the website of Companies House, a government agency that deals with registration and other details of companies in the United Kingdom, showed otherwise.
Dr. Swamy reproduced a few documents in which Rahul Gandhi had allegedly declared himself as a British citizen.
I will write to Lok Sabha Speaker requesting her to refer the matter to the Committee on Ethics for appropriate action against Rahul Gandhi, says Swamy.
He alleged that he had been a director of a company in Britain.
Two annual tax returns submitted by the company in 2005 and 2006 further mentioned Rahul as a British national.
Stung by Swamy’s revelations, after three hours, the Congress came out with the incorporation documents of Rahul’s till-date hidden British company Backops Limited.
Reacting to the Congress’ counter, Swamy tweeted that the Congress’ statement was “stupid”. Show the entire company record.
“As per article 9 of Indian constitution, any Indian citizen can not acquire dual citizenship”, Swamy said.
“Rahul Gandhi has never held any account in Pictet Bank nor has he ever been questioned or detailed at Logon Airport with undeclared cash. Nobody takes his statements seriously”, Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said.
However, the Congress sought to dismiss Swamy’s charges.
In his complaint filed in a Delhi trial court, last year, Swamy accused Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi, who heads the Congress Party, of cheating and misappropriating funds during the acquisition of the now defunct English-daily National Herald.
As politics heated up over the issue, the Congress said Swamy was levelling malicious charges to divert public attention from the internal revolt among senior BJP leaders after the party suffered defeat in the Bihar Assembly polls.
The forementioned allegation was stated by him in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is now sidelined in the BJP.
