WSU scores with 3 seconds left, beats No.18 UCLA
Last season, UCLA lost a blowout to Stanford on Black Friday at the Rose Bowl, the location of the Bruins’ 38-33 heartbreaker a season earlier against Arizona State.
The last game on the Week 11 schedule will pit Washington State versus UCLA at 10:45PM ET tonight.
Luke Falk connected with Gabe Marks on a 21-yard touchdown pass with three seconds left to send Washington State to a 31-27 victory over No. 19 UCLA on Saturday night. His 35 touchdowns are also just seven behind the Pac-12 record that Marcus Mariota had with OR during the 2014 college football season.
K Ka’imi Fairbairn: Needs one more point to tie the UCLA and Pac-12 all-time scoring record.
WSU (7-3 overall, 5-2 Pac-12) is No. 24 in the Associated Press top 25 poll and No. 23 in the Amway Coaches Poll. UCLA would win the division with season-ending road victories over Utah and Southern California.
Washington State wide receiver Calvin Green, right, goes after a loose ball during the first half of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, November 14, 2015, in Pasadena, Calif. Washington State recovered the ball.
In the first half UCLA managed to get on the board first with a field goal on the Bruins opening drive after Washington State’s defense came up with a big stop as UCLA drove all the way down to the Cougars four before getting stopped. “We finish on those drives in the red zone and eliminate those penalties, it’s like an ongoing theme every week”. “We’ve got to convert”. Similar to last week against Oregon State, UCLA’s offensive linemen struggled with a defensive front that was calling out cadences at the line of scrimmage.
Fortuitously, the sack was called back for defensive holding, and on the very next play, Bender connected with Dom Williams on a 7-yard fade that gave him his first career touchdown pass and gave the Cougars a 14-13 lead. “But as you could see, the defense couldn’t get too excited because there was still time left to play”.
Falk was replaced by Peyton Bender, a redshirt freshman who had attempted just six passes while appearing in two games this season.
“It’s something we have to get over quickly, ” Mora said.
“An offense like that, you just never know”, Rosen said.
The Cougars have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Luke Falk who now leads the nation in passing yards with 3,736 and is second in touchdown passes with 33.
Only problem was, he left 1:09 on the clock. Rosen didn’t quite have enough Saturday vs. Washington State, though.
One of Cougars’ offensive linemen tried to help Falk up, but the quarterback stayed down, trying but failing to crawl off the turf.
Falk returned to start the second half, promptly leading an 11-play, 47-yard touchdown drive capped by a 4-yard pass to Gabe Marks for a 21-16 Washington State advantage.
