Vigils held in Melbourne and Sydney for Paris
LAURA Laffitte, a Parisian who has been in Melbourne for eight years, said she heard about the attacks on Saturday morning but had to wait until 11pm for news of her family.
A group of people have gathered in Union Square, New York, for a vigil following the in Paris. The crowd cheered and sang together to comfort each other.
“France is in mourning”.
The event represents the third straight day that Montrealers mourn the victims of the terrorist attacks, which saw 127 civilians killed and hundreds more injured Friday evening.
A few in the crowd wave French flags and pay their respects at a makeshift memorial with a huge heart made out of candles.
Speakers included French consular officials and there was a minute of silence followed by the French and Australian national anthems. We have 100,000 French from France working and studying here. “We must stay strong and stay together, and keep on meeting,”she said. I put all my plans aside today”.
“We are in solidarity with the people of France and the people of Europe in condemning this”, Mr Mahmood said.
An American artist also came to the park to make an art installation – a wall of disparate colored roses, painted in the colors of the French flag with the sign “J’etre humain” (I am human) written underneath.
