Harry Kane explains why he was rejected by Arsenal
“Hectic” and “crazy” are the words Kane uses to describe a period for which the catalyst was his deflected free-kick as Spurs come from behind to beat Aston Villa last November.
‘Even for the likes of Jordan Spieth, he is my age, the way he burst onto the scene and now it is about maintaining it. That is obviously what I want.
“You’ve got to go out to win football matches and they go out not to lose them”.
“So, yes, it’s been a insane year, but it’s all good and hopefully there is more to come”.
“People ask me to say congratulations”, he said this week at the England team hotel in Alicante as he reflected on the way his life has changed in the past 12 months.
“Maybe in 10 years we’ll see where I’m at”.
“It’s just about doing what I can for now and doing things right, trying to score as many goals as possible”.
It was with a smile that Kane recounted this odd new phenomenon that means he has featured in more best man speeches than he cares to estimate. “Obviously there are a lot of Spurs and England fans out there”.
Kane laughed when it was mentioned that he has appeared at a lot of weddings he has never been to, but the desire of people he does not know to have him involved in such a special day underlines what a popular public figure the forward has become.
“Things turn around quick and seven goals now for Spurs this season, which is great for me, gives me a lot of confidence and hopefully I can just continue that form now until the end of the season”.
“So you just get on with it, do your job and it’s more at the end of the season when you look back and think about what could have been”.
Kane scored 31 goals in 51 appearances in Pochettino’s first season at the club, and the 22-year-old has scored six Premier League goals already this term despite a tough start to the season in front of goal.
There is great ability in Kane, but it is always the attitude that strikes you most: an affable London lad with a steely-eyed, unwavering determination to succeed that you might ordinarily expect to see in someone much older than his 22 years. I still felt I was contributing to the team and we were picking up results.
“People have got to start respecting Tottenham and I definitely think they’ll finish above Manchester United”.
‘But it wasn’t like it took off straight from then, I still had to work hard. I probably didn’t have that at the start of the season.
However, a prolific record in the Europa League forced Mauricio Pochettino to give “The Hurri-Kane” a run in the Premier League.
