New Barbie Ad Features Young Boy Playing with Doll
The campaign to sell Moschino Barbie features a young boy, proving that there really should be no gender boundaries when it comes to kids playing with toys.
“Moschino Barbie is so fierce”, the boy, who looks like a miniature version of Scott, can be heard saying.
In the 30-second clip, a young boy with a blond mohawk – which resembles that of Moschino Creative Director Jeremy Scott, plays with the Mattel doll with two female friends.
The two girls exclaim ‘She’s the most Moschino Barbie ever!’ and ‘I love you Moschino Barbie!’ as the camera shows off the doll’s designer ensemble.
Their latest effort, announced this week, has been to cast a boy in the commercial for its new Moschino Barbie, which is decked out in Italian luxury fashion brand Moschino.
One commenter wrote: ‘I used to play with my sister’s Barbies and felt such shame afterward.
‘Thank you for this! There was the Zendaya Barbie with pop star’s trademark dreadlocks.
It’s great to see ads for toys rejecting the usual boring and limited gender norms.
There were, of course, people who found fault with the new Moschino ad, given Barbie’s long history of unrealistic, white-washed beauty expectations. But it’s clear that Mattel’s Barbie is headed in the right direction for 2015.
