Who won the Mark Hunt vs. Antonio Silva fight?
He’s slimmed down and says he came into fight week just a hair over the heavyweight limit. After that combo, Silva looked a bit stiff and couldn’t get away from the fence as Hunt grew slightly more aggressive. As appropriate as a draw may have been for that battle, I’m sure both fighters and the MMA world desire a real result.
Hunt and Silva rematched on Saturday at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia, with Hunt knocking Silva out in the first round.
“I know the gameplan; I’ve always said it’s the same gameplan, which is to go and knock his face off and that’s about it. It’s the easiest gameplan anyone could have”, Hunt told the Herald.
Hunt has been working hard with AKA Thailand throughout his 8-week preparation ahead of his bout with Silva (19-6-1).
UFC 193 went down last night (Sat., November 14, 2015) from inside Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia and now it’s time to see who went home with the biggest slice of the Reebok sponsorship pie.
Silva caught Hunt with a right hand of his own but it didn’t deter the heavy-hitting 41-year-old, connecting with a lethal blow shortly after and lading two more before the referee stopped the fight.
“I got beaten up”.
Whether that amounts to a win and what the future holds, Hunt admits is anyone’s guess, but he is hoping to set tongues wagging for all the right reasons.
Once respect fell to the wayside, Hunt quickly capitalized and finished off the fight with no mercy. “I’m looking forward to this fight against Big Foot, it is going to be really good”. There were rumblings of a deteriorating chin and a few even questioned if he should have accepted the rematch with Hunt in the first place.
If there isn’t a championship on the horizon, it’s hard justifying taking all these high-impact fights against such high-caliber opponents. The 41-year-old admitted he is in the best shape of his fighting career after losing as much as 22 kilograms. The “Super Samoan” has scary power, and Silva has suffered numerous knockouts recently.
