Uber drivers get a direct say in who they pick up
Uber’s promotional materials are explicit in saying the functionality is aimed at drivers headed either to high traffic areas or returning home.
If the injunction is granted, those who continue to drive for Uber could be arrested and appear before a judge for being in contempt of a court order.
The Uber app will then find customers who are headed in a similar direction, saving time for the Uber, driver letting him/her reach their destination as well. A feature named “Destinations” lets anyone – going anywhere – take a passenger along for all or part of the trip.
“All Uber trip requests that a driver would normally receive – whether it’s uberPOOL, uberX, or another ride option – can be matched so long as it’s in the direction of the driver’s destination”.
Uber seems to be working towards bettering the experience for the rider.
In the argument of which is cheaper among all taxi app services, it’s no secret that Lyft beats all others out, with rates incomparable to Uber and Sidecar.
The tool could help spur Uber’s many part-time drivers to pick up more riders. These days, Uber has greater ambitions than just bringing passengers from Point A to Point B. It also wants to shuttle packages, couches, kittens, and lunches around town, and its unique logistics means it can essentially flip a switch and activate a whole range of applications other than just passenger rides. Uber will test the new feature in San Francisco over the next few weeks.
Uber is testing the driver destination function in the Bay Area in the United States and will be rolling it out globally “soon”. At the time, it said that drivers who commuted to the city from the South Bay would be natural candidates for providing those rides.
Enabling the feature is easy for drivers.
