ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Peyton Manning has a partially torn plantar fascia in his left foot. Manning went for an MRI on his ribs Monday.
“If he’s healthy and ready to go, Peyton’s our quarterback”, he said on Sunday.
Manning wanted to gut it out again and see if he could practice during the week and play Sunday. He was benched for the first time in his career Sunday after throwing four interceptions in Denver’s 29-13 loss to Kansas City.
Kubiak told reporters after the game that he should have held Manning out of the game due to lingering injuries. “I’m disappointed in myself”. That would be certainly the goal for me to get back to a normal practice schedule. “I probably should’ve made a decision not to play him in the game”, Kubiak said, per NFL.com.
Will Manning play? “Peyton is our quarterback”, Kubiak said.
“Maybe looking back that was the wrong – I had the wrong indication by me”.
“I thought I felt good enough to play, that’s what I thought”.
Kubiak wouldn’t speculate how long Manning might be out, saying, “our focus is not going past today or the Chicago Bears”. The future Hall of Famer apparently was battling plantar fasciitis going into the game, only to have the issue worsen after kickoff. But the Chiefs (4-5) prevented him from getting the one record he really wanted: most career wins.
