Donald Trump: We Have To ‘Strongly Consider’ Shutting Down Mosques
Real-estate mogul Donald Trump said Monday that he would “strongly consider” shutting down certain mosques if he became president.
“It’s a great honor to have him to come to Knoxville and for people to speak on his behalf and I’m going to be one of them”, said Corum. “I think I picked up this weekend that actually the French said they will shut down mosques”.
In a speech Monday closing the G20 summit in Turkey, President Obama criticized the Republican presidential candidates who have said they want to close USA borders to Syrian refugees, unless they are Christian.
“I would hate to do it, but it’s something that you’re going to have to strongly consider”, Trump told MSNBC in a phone interview.
Trump’s early comments were against President Obama’s release of five prisoners from Guantanamo Bay last week and that Friday’s attacks in Paris could have been prevented if citizens had guns.
Donald Trump has stirred controversy again.
“I know so many people, Muslims, who are such unbelievably great people, and they’re being so badly tarnished by what’s happening now, it’s a shame”, Trump said. “Imagine the images on the screen flashed around the world as we were dragging parents away from their children, and putting them in what, detention centers, and then systematically sending them out”.
“They’ve got to be stopped”, he said.
“Donald Trump’s apparent willingness to close down American mosques that he deems “extreme” is totally incompatible with the Constitution and our nation’s cherished principle of religious freedom”, Robert McCaw, a government affairs manager for the Council of American-Islamic Relations, said at the time.
He would “bomb the s–t” out of ISIS strongholds in Syria and crack down on American mosques touting Islamic extremism by shuttering their doors.
“I would do that, absolutely, I think it’s great”, Trump replied.
A series of deadly terrorist attacks has editorial boards in the United States scrambling for answers. “If we want to be successful defeating ISIL that’s a good place to start, by not promoting that kind of ideology”, he said.
Trump appeared to be referring to the NY Police Department’s Demographics Unit, which The Associated Press reported in 2011 was spying on Muslims and mosques around the city with help from the Central Intelligence Agency. “But it’s a tremendous amount of horror and damage and vitriol”.
