Rosberg beats Hamilton and became first back-to-back victor in Brazil
“That is not only on-track, it is off-track also, in having the right attitude, but I would say, fundamentally, if you look at Austin, or look at Mexico, or look at Brazil, it was Nico’s sheer pace that decided the race”.
“Wow – another great win in front of another great crowd!” said Rosberg “I’m so happy with that one – especially at this great circuit with all this history, which makes it extra fun”.
Hamilton added: “I had good pace you just can’t overtake here”.
However, the former Williams man does not know why it is that he has enjoyed the edge over his Mercedes teammate in recent times.
Sebastian Vettel secured his thirteenth visit to the podium of 2015 with a third place finish at Interlagos, even if the result meant he could no longer finish second in the championship in his first year with the Scuderia Ferrari team.
Although Mercedes denied their lead auto had any developing reliability worries, Rosberg then appeared particularly cautious on the brakes for several laps after the first tyre change, allowing Hamilton to move in overtaking range for several laps before dropping back again. “The way Lewis was driving, as you saw, a couple of laps later his tyres were finished, there was no way in this world he was going to get anywhere near a two-stop. I don’t have an explanation for why now but I just want to keep on going”.
He later called for Formula One’s complex technical rules to be changed in a bid to spice up the show.
“I think both drivers know what we expect of them and the responsibility they have to the team”.
McLaren’s Nico Rosberg thought he reaped the rewards for taking care of his tyres as he claimed back-to-backs wins in Brazil.
Equally inevitably, Rosberg, who was sitting alongside Hamilton in the post-race press conference, wasn’t prepared to let his friend-turned-foe have the last word. “I guess for fans it’s probably not too exciting to watch”.
For Rosberg, considering his world championship challenge is over, the German still wants to make certain that his form will start now for his bid next season.
Another third for Ferrari’s Vettel followed by Raikkonnen.
“It’s such a great track, but you can’t get close enough unless you have a huge advantage on the guy in front. We were a bit in no-man’s land and didn’t have anyone to fight with, but hopefully the next race we can be a bit closer”.
Although this was Rosberg’s second win in a row it was still only his fifth of the season – half that achieved by his team-mate.
Vettel was well ahead of Raikkonen, who had a similarly large gap over Williams driver Valtteri Bottas, while Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg held off Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat for sixth.
