Kris Bryant Named NL’s Top Rookie
Kris Bryant had many signature moments in his Rookie of the Year winning season.
Today, neither team could be any happier with its choice.
Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa was named American League Rookie of the Year, receiving 17 of the 30 first place votes. “Hopefully one day we can bring a championship for the first time to the city of Houston”.
“Now we know what it’s like to play playoff baseball”.
Correa showed his skill in the postseason as well, batting.
Despite the fact that Detroit Tigers catcher James McCann had a fine season, it is no surprise that he is not the American League Rookie of the Year. No one screwed this up: Kris Bryant is the National League Rookie of the Year.
Correa earned 17 first place votes and 13 second place votes, finishing with 124 points. 345 on-base percentage did the same. Bryant drew walks in his first two trips to the plate, then recorded his first career hit and RBI with one swing in his third at-bat.
Because of the gap defensively, Lindor actually finished with a higher WAR (4.6) than Correa (4.1).
“I took a few big leaps forward as far as pulling the ball, and I look forward to using the field a lot more”.
Correa, who debuted on June 8 and was the youngest position player in the Majors this season, hit.
Correa is just the second player from the Astros to win the award. Yeah, me either. Bryant shook off the “late” callup-playing with a chip on his shoulder as he ran away with the Jackie RobinsonNL rookie of the Year award unanimously.
“I felt I was pulling the ball too much”, Bryant said Monday night during a conference call.
Sano, who debuted as the Twins’ designated hitter on July 2, launched 18 home runs and collected 52 RBIs in 80 games.
Bryant, 23, tied for the major league home run lead among first-year players while leading all full-time NL rookies in OBP, slugging and OPS.
Congratulations to Bryant on this award. He also stole 13 bases. Over those 28 games, he collected 40 hits and won the AL Rookie of the Month award.
“I don’t think there was any pressure for myself, just because you’re surrounded by (other young players)”, Bryant said. “The only expectations that really matter are the ones that you put on yourself”.
