Suspect Charged After 6 Killed in Texas Campsite Incident
Six people were found murdered at a Texas campsite in Anderson County on Sunday.
Hudson, 33, was arrested and charged with one count of murder but additional charges are expected, according to reports.
One of the victims owned the property where the group was staying, KYTX reported. Three of the dead were identified by a family member as Carl Johnson, Hannah Johnson and Thomas Kamp, according to KYTX-TV in Tyler, Texas. “And it wasn’t just verbal abuse towards women, it was towards both men and women”, the woman said.
“The property the victims were on … is not a large piece of property, however, the property that adjoins them is the Hudson land and it is quite large”, he added.
Among the victims – a few from north Texas – were Carl Johnson, Thomas Kamp, who owned the property, and his girlfriend Hannah Johnson.
The paper also states Carl’s wife, Cynthia, is the sole survivor who escaped.
The youngest victim of the massacre Kade Johnson, aged 6.
The sheriff said Hudson has a previous record of violent behaviour, but nothing on the scale of the six murders.
Hudson, who was arrested without incident near the campsite, was being held on $2.5 million bail.
“They bought land probably to camp – come to the piney woods to camp”, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor told the station.
Hudson was picked up several weeks ago for a separate assault, the sheriff said. The site of the crime is 100 miles southeast of Dallas. Johnson’s mother Cynthia Johnson suffered minor injuries and spent Sunday night in a county crisis center after alerting police that morning. Their daughter moved there to be closer to them.
