Google Photos Will Now Help You Free Up Space On Your Phone
At least for Android users! The hope is that this will prevent the issue of a photo continuing to appear in the Photos view even after being deleted. This option would easily help all the users to free up more space on their Phone, especially for those who have a very less Internal Storage, especially the consumers who have phones with 8GB or 16GB of space.
Thanks to Google’s ability to more deeply integrate its own Photos application on its Android platform, the “Free up Space” option is fairly seamless.
For those of you out there that are Google Photos power users, you might have already discovered this feature sort of hidden under wraps.
One of the strengths of Google Photos is the ability to access unlimited cloud storage for “high quality” photos, and videos as well. However, this feature is only enabled for those who back up photos in Original quality, which is a little disappointing. For example, if your photos have already been uploaded to the cloud, Photos will give you the “okay” to delete them off of your device, so as to save space for additional photos. Previously a “bulk delete device copies” message would pop up on a device that’s nearing its storage capacity if the user uploads files at Original Quality.
Saying yes to this message would begin deleting files inside the device based on matches in the Google Photos system online. This means that you’ll still be able to keep the image (without having to reupload) but it won’t subtract for your precious Google account storage limit.
If you changed your mind about needed the full resolution images, you’ll now be about to click a new “Recover Storage” option photos.google.com/settings on the web which will then automatically downgrade your photos for you.
