Ortiz retiring after 2016 season
Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz plans to retire after the 2016 season, FOX Sports Insider Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday.
Ortiz, who turns 40 on Wednesday, has spent the past 13 years with the Boston Red Sox after six years with the Minnesota Twins at the start of his career.
In 2004, Ortiz hit. “I’ll be on it next year”. The report has not been confirmed by the Red Sox and Ortiz has not tweeted about it.
Ortiz has never won an MVP award but finished in the top five of the voting every year from 2003-07.

Ortiz joined the 500 home run club this past year after batting.273/.360/.553 with 73 runs scored, 37 home runs and 108 RBI in 146 games with the Red Sox. Their home opener is one week later on April 11 against the Orioles.
Ortiz has been wearing Boston-based New Balance cleats as of late, hitting the field in them throughout the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
