Lamborghini Huracan gets new rear-wheel-drive model for 2016
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 has an official successor; it’s called the Huracan LP 580-2 and it will be unveiled at the 2015 LA Auto Show on Wednesday. Along with the detuning, the engineers dropped the weight by 73 lbs.
The suspension, steering and stability and traction controls all have been recalibrated for the revised setup, Lamborghini said. Prominent among these is the slight downgrade for the engine, with the 5.2-liter V10 now producing 571hp and 384lb-ft of torque. The unit produces 580 PS (572 HP) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque with 75 percent of that available from just 1,000 rpm, less than the LP 610-4, which has 610 PS (602 HP) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque.
Drivers can expect to hit 62 miles per hour from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds, just 0.2 seconds behind the LP 610-4, while top speed has been reduced slightly to 199 miles per hour.
For those also looking for a manual transmission, it won’t be found here. Power-to-weight ratio stands at 2.4 kg/hp, compared to the 2.33 kg/hp for the LP 610-4.
The Huracan LP580-2 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels fitted to specially developed Pirelli P-Zero tyres, measuring 245/35 up front and 305/35 at the rear. Designers have reformed the front air intakes to increase down pressure on the front axle, while the rear spoiler lip improves airflow around the tail end.
What’s old is new again at Lamborghini.
While cost savings are a benefit, the rear-wheel-powered Huracan is created to put more fun – and a few would say, danger – into a world of sports cars that is increasingly being dominated by hyper-controlled and electronically operated speedsters.
Price quoted for the new rear wheel Huracan is €150,000 plus taxes which makes the model cheaper than the LP580-2.
