In a separate development at the G20 summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly seeking a “strategic partnership” with Australia in a potential deal that would expand two-way trade worth 15 billion U.S. dollars a year.
Australia is not rushing into any decision about committing more resources.
They also praised Australia for its efforts in promising to resettle 12,000 refugees from the Syrian crisis. However, replying to whether there might be a role for Australia in a peacekeeping mission, Turnbull said it would be very important that any external peacekeeping forces were, wherever possible, provided by countries within the region because they would be likely to receive greater acceptance from the people of Syria.

“We are, aside from the United States, probably the second largest contributor per capita, in fact, you would say even the largest contributor”.
“But Australia has stood up very strongly as part of the global coalition to do that”.

The G-20 leaders could also call for better co-ordination and exchange of information in an attempt to cut off funding and adopt a more comprehensive approach on “addressing the conditions conducive to terrorism”. Andrew Robb, the Minister for Trade and Investment, said in a statement on Monday the discussions about an FTA would be “a major step forward in unlocking exciting new trade and investment opportunities in Europe”.
