McDonald’s to Launch McPick 2 Replacing Dollar Menu
The “McPick 2” menu, which is set to be unveiled in restaurants from January, will allow customers to pick two items from four – the McDouble, the McChicken, Small Fries and Mozzarella Sticks.
The first promotion will be “McPick 2 for $2”, and will run from January 4 through February 8, McDonald’s spokeswoman Lisa McComb said on Tuesday, adding that the menu would offer choice and flexibility.
Steve Easterbrook the CEO said that when the chain moved from its Dollar Menu it did not replace it with any offers that were of equivalent value and customers voted by staying away.
Two years after phasing out its popular “Dollar Menu”, the fast-food chain will launch the “McPick-2” menu, according to media reports.
Whether the new McPick menu will catch on is up in the air.
The latter seems like a new addition to the McDonald’s menu, or I haven’t been desperate enough to eat them.
Wendy’s tried replacing its 99-cent menu with a “Right Price Right Size” menu, but acknowledged the switch wasn’t doing the job.
Last month it started to promote 4 for $4 limited time deal that includes chicken nuggets, Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, fries and drink. “That’s sort of the new definition of value”.
That can lead to tensions over pricing.
Out of McDonald’s 36,000 plus locations, 30,000 or so are owned by franchisees.
In 2009, AP notes, Burger King franchisees sued the company over a $1 burger that they felt was losing them money.
