Number of Thanksgiving travelers will continue to rise

“AAA is expecting 1.2-million New Jersey residents to travel 50 miles or more”, Tracy Noble, manager of Public and Government Affairs for Triple-A/Mid-Atlantic said.
Like on every other holiday, the overwhelming majority of travelers – nearly 90 percent – will be driving. “While many people remain cautious about the economy and their finances, many thankful Americans continue to put a premium on traveling to spend the holiday with loved ones”.

AAA Texas will also release a travel forecast next month estimating travel numbers for the year-end holiday season between Christmas and New Year ‘s Day.
That’s a slight increase of 0.9 percent statewide and 0.6 percent nationally from a year ago, AAA said. Most USA drivers will pay the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008. However, AAA says travel by cruises, trains and buses, will decrease 1.4 percent this Thanksgiving, to 1.4 million travelers.

Airfare is basically flat compared with a year ago, with a mere 0.3 percent, or 69 cents, average increase, according to the Airlines Reporting Corp., which processes ticket transactions for airlines and travel agencies.
Gas averaged $2.16 per gallon in Maryland as of Tuesday, 67 cents per gallon less than last year’s price.
