First Democratic Debate: Sanders v. Clinton
Clinton will instead be in New Hampshire on Monday and Tuesday, filing paperwork to get on the state’s primary ballot and appearing at events focused on veterans, the environment and business.
Touted as the first primary in the South and the first true test of Democrats’ ability to draw enthusiasm from a critical segment of their base, the Palmetto State will host Clinton, Sen.
Clinton, meanwhile, is likely to do just as she did at Friday’s forum, aiming to stay above the fray and showing no sign of being intimidated by her opponents.
Sanders is giving Clinton a strong challenge for the Democratic nomination, but only in two states that are overwhelmingly white: Iowa and New Hampshire.
“I am a Democrat”.
Clinton has “mischaracterized” his remarks on guns, Sanders said at a candidate forum Friday in SC, suggesting that she had twisted the exchange for her own ends. If there’s a contrast, there’s a contrast.
“I think that when President Obama was running for re-election, I was glad to step up and work very hard for him, while Sen”.
Sanders’ shots on Clinton’s late-coming opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline and global trade pacts, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership, have been none-too-subtle, even if he doesn’t mention her by name.
She has since described that comment as “a little tongue in cheek”.
Like Sanders, Hagan compared Clinton’s positions not to her rivals for the nomination, but to the GOP field.
“He has been very busy working on his priorities right now on the Clinton Foundation”, said Clinton, noting he is currently in Latin America. Thats what it was about when my husband ran back in 92 in New Hampshire. “That’s what it’s still about”.
Clinton has defended President Obama’s decision to deploy US troops on the ground in Syria for the first time to advise and assist rebel forces combating the Islamic State. “And they can actually look and see what I have said and done throughout my career”, Clinton said.
Bernie Sanders has opened up his line of attack on Hillary Clinton, accusing her of being a latecomer to popular liberal causes and railing about her taking corporate donations.
Will Sanders’ criticisms of Hillary be enough for him to best her in the primaries? Clinton on Monday disagreed, saying she and Sanders agree on equal pay, raising the minimum wage and paid family leave policies.
Later, she plans to speak to an environmental group in Nashua before hosting a town hall in Windham tonight. That was an unforced error by her spokesman, who should have thought twice about making news on a subject that the candidate had pretty clearly turned a page on, and for what? “We are fighting for the future of this planet and we’ve got to be bold”, he said, as he moved on to criticizing Republicans.
While Obama has declined to make an endorsement in the race, Clinton is certain to have a high-profile booster throughout her campaign.
The first question of the debate was directed to Clinton: “Have you changed your positions for political expediency?” “However, she has to continue her momentum”, said Scott Huffmon, who conducted the Winthrop poll.
“Young people tell me that we are moving to a much more connected and generous place”, O’Malley said.
