“(Nohemi was) a kind, thoughtful, generous and talented student, dear to all who knew her”, Michael LaForte, a lecturer in Cal State’s Long Beach’s department of design, wrote.
University officials said about 80 students from Paris attend various California State University campuses as part of an exchange program.
Uhlenkamp said the school has confirmed that the other 16 students are safe.
American colleges and universities rushed to make contact this weekend with their students studying overseas in France after a series of terrorist attacks hit Paris on Friday night.
Gonzalez was studying overseas at the Strate College of Design in Paris.
A vigil has been planned by the university on Sunday to mourn Gonzalez and all of those that have died.
“The USA and France maintain a close relationship in countering terrorism around the world including direct action in North Africa, Syria and Iraq”, the Pentagon said.
“The Beach family is heartbroken over the tragic loss of Nohemi Gonzalez and deeply grateful for the many expressions of comfort and support that have poured in to the university from across the country and around the globe”, the site states”.
One of her professors, David Teubner, remembered Gonzalez as a hard working person who also mentored other students.
Another American, Helen Jane Wilson, was at the Bataclan concert hall to hear the Eagles of Death Metal band perform Friday night when gunmen burst into the venue, killing 89 people. Gonzalez said she told her daughter they were having dinner with her boyfriend, and Nohemi said she wished she was there.

Nohemi’s mother, Beatriz Gonzalez, didn’t speak during the hour-long ceremony inside the school’s student union that was followed by a candlelight vigil outside.
They said she was petite and full of energy. “She was a very strong young woman”. The student got in touch with the university and Gonzalez’s friends and family to inform them of what happened.
CSULB said it has 17 students* studying overseas in Paris this semester.
