Dalton responds to Watt jab
It wasn’t pretty. I mean, it was 10-6. This sounds like maybe Dalton was just a little salty because the Bengals lost their first game of the season.
10 quarters, to be exact.
“We’re starting to click”, cornerback Kevin Johnson said. “It doesn’t define anything”.
In the four postseason games that they have played in since 2011, the Bengals have been outscored 103-43 and allowed a combined 653 rushing yards. Thats not the team we are and we know what we’ve done to this point.
Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton had another tough time against a Texans defense, going 21 of 37 for 187 yards with an interception and three sacks. They had at least twice that many drops. It was Green’s first catch since the first quarter. If that’s the case, then wear that outrage proudly, Mr. Dalton. Hoyer had 15 yards on one scramble, and Dalton had 30 yards on five carries.
The drive stalled at that point. But the Bengals rushed for only 73 yards, led by Gio Bernard’s 36. An incomplete pass to Green made it for fourth-and-6. But he fumbled. The play was reviewed. The league said the Jaguars should have been penalized on the fourth-down play because all 11 players were not set before the ball was snapped with a second left. “Very disappointing… Move on to next week”.
Hoyer and Yates are the only quarterbacks on Houston’s roster, but O’Brien said they have no plans to add a signal caller this week. “We had a chance at the end to win”. One game does not change the first half of the year. Yates threw the game-winning score to DeAndre Hopkins, who did the majority of the work for the game’s only touchdown. They don’t lose so many players to injury that they can’t bounce back.
Apparently that’s all it took to establish beef between the two Houston-area golden boys, and send social media into a tizzy. “That won’t happen any more, hopefully”. “I hold everyone accountable”.
As if the “think of the kids” sanctimony wasn’t enough, Dalton expresses disappointment and questions Watt’s integrity.
“I’m disappointed in him”, the Bengals’ quarterback said in the postgame press conference. I think JJ’s a good player. “And for him to make comments like that, he’s just showing that it’s acceptable to do that kind of stuff and say that kind of stuff”.
The Bengals’ (Offense) in Primetime: This was a pathetic effort overall by the offense and will only give fuel to the fire that the Bengals struggle when the lights shine brightest.
“That’s part of it”, Dalton said. The biggest thing for this city is we’ve done a lot good things. The fans stayed with it. There were a few boos, which is part to it. That’s fine. This team has a lot of growing to do before they start to become contenders as you don’t see teams like the Patriots have games like this. Veteran Eric Winston started for Smith for the second straight week. That was painfully evident on the Bengals’ first two offensive drives as penalties helped kill each.
The play, which resulted in a 16-yard gain on screen to Marvin Jones on first-and-20, deployed something called the “Emory and Henry” formation.
For the season, Eifert has 40 catches for 460 yards and nine touchdowns.
So yeah, like we said, weird. “That’s the way you have to play against an 8-0 team”.
