‘Disturbed’ passenger restrained on Boston-bound flight after trying to open
Another passenger traveling with him took her child to the restroom during preparations for takeoff, and a passenger near them panicked, Grace Wong reported for the Chicago Tribune.
The woman has not been publicly identified by MA police, who were on the ground waiting for the flight’s arrival at around 1:30 p.m. ET.
A clerk is expected to set bail. If Dolniak posts bail, she will be remanded to Customs and Border Protection custody.
MA State Police met the plane on the tarmac of Boston Logan Airport to detain the woman after they were contacted by the airline. What the inebriated passenger did do was try to exit the plane midflight by attempting to open the exit door. Dolniak is expected to be arraigned in a Boston courtroom Wednesday.
Exit doors can not be physically opened mid-flight, which is part of security protocol on all commercial planes.
“There’s no way you can open the door in flight”.
With all that has gone on in this world in the last few years, people are hyper-vigilant when it comes to terrorism possibilities, so the passengers didn’t hesitate to take action.
“We were all looking around curiously to see what happened”, he said.
Despite the incident, the plane landed safely in Boston thirty minutes ahead of schedule and the woman is now being interviewed along with several members of crew and eye-witnesses.
In a statement, British Airways called the passenger “unruly” and said the flight crew asked that police meet the flight in Boston.
