Turkish Airlines stops services to Sharm el Sheikh until November 30
British airlines will stop repatriating holidaymakers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Tuesday, and anyone who stays will have to fly back “at their own risk”, the United Kingdom government warned.
“I wish no one had rushed ahead of the results of the investigation”, he said on Egyptian television. “For sure, 100 percent, it will destroy the industry”.
The crash took place on October 31, and the cause of the crash had not yet been determined as investors from many countries are working on it in Egypt.
A worker at Sharm el-Sheikh airport told us that staff felt under suspicion as police hunt for a potential Isil infiltrator, and said that they would hand over any information they had.
Sharm el-Sheikh is considered Egypt’s premier resort town.
A senior Kremlin official has said the flight ban to Egypt could last for months, and Russia’s flagship carrier Aeroflot said it was not scheduling any flights to Egypt before March 27.
In the coming days, the wreckage from the airplane is expected to be transported to Cairo.
At this point, US crash experts don’t expect to gain access to the crash site, according to the official, or to participate in examining any of the wreckage or analysis of the black box recorders.
“This sound will be analysed with specific equipment that is not available in most countries”, Civil Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal told state newspaper Al-Ahram in an interview published on Friday. Russian Federation and Egypt say it’s too early to draw conclusions.
On the streets of Cairo, a few people are angry.
“We need tourism”, said Islam Rayan, a soldier walking down a residential street on Friday.
Egyptian tourists Adel El-Sawy and his wife Aya said Sharm El-Sheikh is quiet compared to past year during this time.
