Fans, Expect ‘Bittersweet’ Ending to ‘Game of Thrones’
So followers of the franchise will be unsurprised that Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is planning a “bittersweet” ending to his Westeros saga.
“The show, of course, has caught up to me, which I didn’t actually think would ever happen”, he said during a talk this week at Northwestern University. But he added that things won’t be all sunshine and roses.
“We all year for happy endings, in a sense”, the 67-year-old author told the audience – mostly made up of students – according to The Wrap. In fact, George says Game of Thrones should have a bittersweet ending, much like The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.
When talking about the end specifically, Martin said that “people ask me how Game of Thrones is gonna end, and I’m not gonna tell them”. Life does not work that way! During a Q&A, Martin covered a wide variety of topics about both the popular HBO drama, as well as the book series for which it’s based – specifically, his plan for wrapping up the storyline.
The author teased the ending of his book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, telling his voracious horde of fans on Wednesday to prepare for a “bittersweet ending”, reports The Wrap. They have already exhausted Martin’s novels to the point that they need more published material, although season five only proved that they can veer away from the storyline a bit, but still come to the same conclusion.
Game of Thrones is now gearing up for its sixth season over at HBO, but as the series moves forward, it continues to get closer and closer to the ultimate end.
Right now, there’s no answer on Snow’s fate in the books; his life was left hanging in the balance at the end of 2011’s A Dance with Dragons, the most recent book in the series. The cast members are now busy filming for Season 6 of the TV series, which is expected to air by April 2016.
