Palmer throws 3 TD passes, Cardinals beat Seahawks 39-32
Down 29-25, Palmer put on his big boy trousers and got to work, leading the Cardinals down the field before finding Jermaine Gresham in the end zone. It took a ballsy playcall to turn that back around, and when it comes to that aspect of the game, few coaches are as courageous as Arians. Ill-timed penalties extended Arizona drives and directly put points on the board. “What I would say is that we’ve got to keep our hands in, and those are all up to interpretation and those guys are calling it the best they can”, Carroll said. – Larry Fitzgerald had nine catches for 123 yards, Michael Floyd had seven catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
The game against Arizona was just the latest example of why Seattle needs to get back to a heavy emphasis on the running game.
But this year, with the elusive win at CenturyLink Field under their belts, the Cardinals look primed to finish what they couldn’t last year.
Their 19-point lead gone and their 35-year-old quarterback seemingly unraveling under a fierce pass rush, the Arizona Cardinals had reason for concern.
Palmer threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns, Andre Ellington had a 48-yard touchdown run with 1:58 remaining and the Cardinals moved three games ahead in the NFC West with a wild 39-32 victory over the Seahawks on Sunday night. That was Wilson’s fourth fumble of the 2015 season. Seattle WR Paul Richardson, making his season debut, had a 40-yard catch before leaving in the first half with a hamstring injury…. With 6:41 left in the second quarter the Cardinals took a 12-0 lead.
The Cardinals survived a November trip to the Pacific Northwest and, unlike previous year, are poised to wrap up the NFC West title early. The push ended with Will Tukuafu’s 1-yard touchdown run, the Seahawks’ first score.
Catanzaro sent the game into halftime with a 43 yard field that winded from left to right and then finally through the uprights.
Just as has been the case in every one of the Seahawks’ five losses so far this season, they were seemingly in control of the game heading down the stretch. You could make the argument that Seattle reverts to their passing game when they are down, but in all of Seattle’s losses they have had a lead in the forth quarter, so they obviously have seldom been in a position where they needed to make the rushing attack a secondary option. The talented tight end never had to worry about an accurate pass when he was in New Orleans, and he never had to worry about when his quarterback took off scrambling.
He sent out a tweet that suggesting Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson “pull your head out of your…” Cliff Avril came unblocked off the edge and sacked Palmer, knocking the ball free. Palmer came to the sideline and simply asked where the unblocked rushers were going from.
After the Cardinals dominated the first half, the Seahawks outscored the visitors 22-3 over a 17-minute span, which linebacker Bobby Wagner capped off by recovering a Palmer fumble and returning it 22 yards for a touchdown to make the score 29-25.
Marshawn Lynch bulled his way in for his third touchdown of the season on the next play, but Wilson’s 2-point conversion pass was incomplete and Seattle trailed 25-23 with 14:44 left. That’s how he kept Seattle’s defense off balance just enough, as furiously as that defense played.
NOTES: Seattle claimed DT A.J. Francis off waivers and waived DT David King on Monday.
The No. 1 draft pick shrugged off two interceptions – the first he’d thrown in a month – and benefited from a defensive holding call that wiped out his goal-line fumble on the play before the rookie faked a handoff to Doug Martin and circled around right end all alone.
Then on 3rd and 4 from the SEA 48, bad tackling and balance along the left sideline aided Ellington’s 48 yard touchdown run. King, signed off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad last December, appeared in four games for the Seahawks this season.
