UB Athletic Director Danny White heading to Central Florida
But the good news is that UCF has hired an athletic director that brings a lot of excitement to Orlando. The move comes after a national search that spanned about a month.
White will take over for Todd Stansbury who left for Oregon State University.
With a new athletics director in place, school leaders can aggressively work to fill a few of the remaining leadership vacancies and push along a few key projects like the completion of the student leadership center, renovation to the baseball field and opening of a new tennis facility.
A 2002 graduate of Notre Dame, White is the son of Duke athletic director Kevin White.
“Danny is one of the nation’s rising stars in college athletics, and his talent, determination, energy, and creativity will guide our program to a bright future”, said UCF President John C. Hitt.
UB also pointed out that for seven consecutive semesters under White’s leadership, UB athletics teams have earned a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The 35-year-old White has been Buffalo’s AD since 2012.
White’s short tenure at Buffalo, the only full Division I athletics program in the SUNY system in NY, didn’t come without a few criticism. He’s the brother of new Florida men’s basketball coach Michael White, who played at Ole Miss and was an assistant on the Rebels’ staff. According to UCFSports.com, White is set to be introduced on Thursday and was the “clear frontrunner” after UCF interviewed multiple candidates for the position.
