Neal, Rinne help Predators beat Ducks 3-2
The Ducks didn’t allow a shot on goal in the period until Filip Forsberg’s wraparound try with under seven minutes left in regulation, but they never did get the equalizer by Rinne, who was the difference Tuesday with an outstanding 38-save performance.
Anaheim Ducks goalie Anton Khudobin (30), of Kazakhstan, blocks a shot by Nashville Predators left wing James Neal (18) in the second period of an NHL hockey game, Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in Nashville, Tenn. Or both. The end result was another sour taste that will linger until the next chance to get rid of it.
Rinne faced his toughest test in the second, stopping all 19 shots he faced in the period. I think we deserved to win.
Rickard Rakell continued his strong start with a highlight reel goal to equalize just 1:14 later.
After the Salomaki goal the Ducks began to dominate play, holding Nashville to just 21 shot attempts over the final 33:47 of play. He has at least one point in four consecutive games. “We were playing like we could win the game”. “They had a couple of breakaways in the second period and we were able to keep them out”.
“That was a big sequence”, Rinne said of his saves on Hagelin. “He controls the puck so well, for us to get 40 shots the way he controls the puck is quite an accomplishment, but we’ve got to find a way to score goals when we need to score goals”, said head coach Bruce Boudreau to Julie Stewart-Binks on Prime Ticket.
Nashville went 3-1-1 on the homestand pushing their record to 11-3-3 for the season. “Rinne played good, we give him that, but we lost the game, so it doesn’t really matter”.
“But Pekka Rinne is an All-Star goalie and he played like an All-Star goalie tonight”, Boudreau said. Weber’s sixth tally of the campaign came off a Roman Josi feed, the 100th assist of Josi’s career.
Former Preds forward Mike Santorelli crashed the crease early in the third and poked home a loose puck to pull Anaheim to within one, but Rinne and the Nashville defense kept the Ducks off the board for the rest of the night.
“At the end of the day, we have to get pucks in”, Cogliano said.
