Jaguars get a victory to savor at expense of sinking Ravens

The Jacksonville Jaguars can’t spend much time dwelling on their improbable, unbelievable 22-20 victory at Baltimore Sunday because they host Tennessee Thursday night. They’ve lost an absurd number of players for the entire season, including their best offensive weapon Steve Smith.

Instead of being 2-7, they’re 3-6 and if they beat the Titans, they’ll be 4-6. The Jaguars came with no timeouts and was forced to run hurry-up offense the entire way with just over a minute to play.

At that point, if the Jacksonville Jaguars were going to break their horrid road losing streak, it was going to take a miracle.

But Dumervil grabbed the quarterback’s facemask, and because a game can’t end on a penalty by the defense, the Jaguars got one more play and the ball at the 35.

The next day, the National Football League admitted that, on the play Dumervil was flagged, Jaguars left tackle Luke Joeckel was not set. For now, though, the focus of Baltimore Ravens is on Jacksonville Jaguars. Bortles found Thomas over the middle for 11 yards, but the clock was ticking.

“Our tempo wasn’t quite there”, coach Gus Bradley said. “But in the end, we have to overcome all of that stuff”.

They were talking about the division race a week ago but they then lost to the NY Jets, 28-23, as they committed four turnovers. We can only hope that this team starts to show a few kind of life over the next two months to give us something to look forward to next season. He threw an interception to Lardarius Webb in the second quarter that gave the Ravens a short field and set up their first touchdown.

Neither team is going to the playoffs, but this game will have draft implications.

There once was a time when the Baltimore Ravens would be overwhelming favorites at home against a 2-6 Jacksonville team that’s dropped 13 consecutive games on the road. Hurns caught five passes for 62 yards with a touchdown.

Jacksonville totaled only 90 rushing yards, 61 of them coming from T.J. Yeldon, who scored the team’s lone running TD on October 25 against Buffalo. Marqise Lee got three yards on an end around and Denard Robinson had one yard on one carry.

Joe Flacco finished the game 34 of 45 for 316 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

But it’s even worse than just the Dumervil gaff. Bortles missed a couple of wide open receivers, threw behind guys and early in the second half never looked at Marcedes Lewis who was running down the field uncovered.
