Murray in last four of ATP Paris Masters
The win meant that he joined Roger Federer, Nadal and Djokovic as the only players to reach the semi-finals or better at all nine of the Masters 1000 Series during their career.
Novak Djokovic will meet Andy Murray in the BNP Paribas Paris Masters final on Sunday after the Serb exacted a measure of revenge on Stanislas Wawrinka in the French capital.
The 10-time Grand Slam champion has failed to reach the final of only one tournament this season an Australian Open tune-up event in January in Dubai, where he fell to big-serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic in the quarterfinals.
Murray will be guaranteed finishing the year second in the ATP rankings for the first time if he wins the title.
It was a very up and down contest and Ferrer probably should have broken Murray again in the opening set but the Scot rose to the challenge and saved all four break points against him.
Murray made a dream start, breaking to love in the first game, but Ferrer was spurred into action and the Spaniard levelled for 3-3 when two Murray unforced errors gave him a break in the sixth game.
It did not take the top seed long to regain control though, getting the better of his opponent’s serve again three games later, following it up with a comfortable hold to leave himself just a game short of the title.
Ferrer has won five titles this year.
“I felt like I served well today – much, much bigger and more consistently than yesterday”. Very little separated the two as they played through a terrific first set.
ANDY MURRAY is through to the final of the Paris Masters after beating David Ferrer 6-4 6-3. “I just took a few antiinflammatories, and I played with no pain in the third”.
The Serb broke early to claim a 3-1 lead and did not face a single break point in cruising to a first-set success. But the Swiss star’s resistance ended when Isner ” who had 27 aces in the match ” hit a looping serve to Federer’s backhand on his next match point.
The key break point would come in the ninth game of the deciding third set, and that was all Murray needed to close out his fourth consecutive win against Gasquet.
“It’s maybe normal after a couple of weeks’ break to feel a bit stiff and sore, but that’s a good thing so that I can get that out of the system in time for the [ATP] World Tour Finals and Davis Cup”.
