Propeller falls off plane, slices through roof of New York home
State Police say a pilot suffered some mechanical issue after losing the plane’s propeller over Montgomery County.
A propeller fell off a single-engine plane and sliced through the roof of a home in upstate New York, officials say.
HAGAMAN, New York (CBSNewYork) – An upstate homeowner faced some unexpected repairs Friday, but considered herself lucky she was not home when an airplane propeller crashed into her bedroom ceiling.
Officials say the propeller went into the home’s attic, damaging the walls.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a Homebuilt Meyers OTW lost part of its propeller on Thursday.
Grace Montenaro was eating lunch outside Thursday afternoon when saw a propeller come tumbling out of the sky.
“I came home and there was a big hole in my roof”, Cebula told local ABC station WTEN-TV.
According to the Daily Gazette, the pilot of the aircraft had “enough altitude and speed to glide into the pilot’s nearby private landing strip without incident”.
“He made it back to the airport, glided”, Montenaro said.
Though he did not identify who was flying the plane, State Police Senior Investigator Jeffrey Ullman said no one was charged.
A tarp now covers the gaping hole in Cebula’s home.
The NYSP and FAA is investigating.
