Cowboys, WR Byrant agree to five-year contract
The $12.82 million would have been around the total Bryant made with the Cowboys during all five of his National Football League seasons combined.
Dez Bryant has the long-term contract he said he wouldn’t play without, and the Dallas Cowboys can quit worrying about whether he really would skip games.
Bryant and Dallas endured heartbreak in the 2014 playoffs when Bryant’s stunning catch at the Green Bay Packers’ one-yard line on 4th-and-2 was overturned by replay officials deep into the fourth quarter of the Cowboys loss. Coming to an agreement for this deal was not an easy task as Dez threatened to sit out regular season games and miss training camp if he didn’t receive what he felt he deserved.
The Denver Broncos signed wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to a new five-year contract on Wednesday. In 2015, $23 million is guaranteed via salary and bonuses, and $22 million more becomes guaranteed in March of 2016.
The deal is nearly the same as Bryant’s with $70 million but this one includes $43.5 million guaranteed, a source said.
Pierre-Paul was injured in a fireworks accident over the weekend of July 4-5, resulting in the amputation of his right index finger.
However, he should have several options, and according to Dave Hyde of the Sun Sentinel, Mathis has said that key factors in figuring out which team he will play for include the coaching staff, contender status and location.
Now it’s time to get down to business, though, and that’s getting something they don’t have that Irvin and Aikman do – a Super Bowl ring.
New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre Paul didn’t get a new long-term contract deal – no surprise since his playing status has been uncertain since he was hurt in the fireworks accident. “All I could think about is that it’s a dream-a dream come true”.
Gostkowski went 35 for 37 on field-goal attempts last season, and has led the National Football League in field goals in each of the last two years.
It’s still not as large as the six-year, 1 million deal Justin Houston banked from the Kansas City Chiefs. No player has more during that five-year stretch.
Pierre-Paul has not yet signed his one-year franchise player offer, and might not until he is confident he can pass the team physical in the wake of his injury.
“Unquestionably, this is in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys to have the contract and the terms we’ve got as opposed to the franchise (tag) and ongoing or future negotiations regarding his contract,” Jones said.
