Jewish Teacher In Marseille Stabbed By Three Islamic State Supporters
The incident has sparked fears of a fresh wave of terrorist assaults across France.
They said the teacher was stabbed in the leg and expected to survive.
The attack took place at the Yavne cultural centre in the north of the city, which functions as both a school and synagogue.
His injuries are not life-threatening, said police prefect Laurent Nunez.
The stabbing comes as France is on heightened alert following the Islamist attacks that killed 129 people in Paris at the weekend.
The attackers, one of them wearing an Islamic State t-shirt, stabbed their victim in the street after arriving on two scooters.
One of the men reportedly showed a picture of Mohamed Merah, a Frenchman born in Toulouse to parents of Algerian descent, who later became radicalised and killed seven people in a series of attacks across southern France in 2012. The attacks also involved shootings at three different restaurants in central Paris and a hostage situation at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris involving more than 200 people.
The attackers stabbed the victim in three parts of his body: abdomen, arm and leg. He is now in a local military hospital in stable contention.
