Anthony Martial doubtful for Manchester United’s trip to Watford after
Anthony Martial left Wembley Stadium on crutches after France’s global friendly against England on Tuesday, leaving his status for Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League fixtures up in the air.
Martial has been their talisman this season and the 19-year-old has bagged five goals since his £36million switch from Monaco in September.
However, the France boss played down the significance of the problem after the game and suggested that Martial had only suffered a minor injury, despite the forward being in significant pain following the final whistle.
Louis van Gaal has already lost Michael Carrick during the worldwide break and he faces a spell out with suspected ankle ligament damage.
Manchester United are waiting to see whether up to eight players, including Anthony Martial, will miss Saturday’s trip to Watford. “I think it is a knock to the top of his foot”. Juan Mata’s place seems assured, as does Jesse Lingard’s, but with Ander Herrera dipping in and in out of the starting XI, could Memphis Depay regain his starting berth? He was substituted in the 67th minute of the game.
But that situation doesn’t suit Wilson or Manchester United as they would want him getting first team experience with a team playing at a good level. By Friday, more will be known but for his manager Van Gaal, everything will very likely, be kept firmly crossed.
