Several premiers urge PM to suspend refugee fast-track plan
“If even a small number of individuals who wish to do harm to our country are able to enter Canada as a result of a rushed refugee resettlement process, the results could be devastating”.
Federal interim Conservative leader Rona Ambrose said since the premiers lack key information on the refugee initiative, it’s no wonder they want a second look.
“If we take in these French refugees I’m moving to Canada”.
If you think we should pause this plan until the safety of Canadians is assured then please sign the petition below and share this petition with your friends and family. Listen to Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall who says don’t let quotas or dates determine the outcome.
“I understand that the overwhelming majority of refugees are fleeing violence and bloodshed and pose no threat to anyone”.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has claimed responsibility for the attacks that left 129 dead and 350 wounded.
“The recent attacks in Paris are a grim reminder of the death and destruction even a small number of malevolent individuals can inflict upon a peaceful country and its citizens”, Wall said.
Quebec’s immigration minister also expressed concern. “I don’t think it is possible by the end of the year”.
“And I think that is a mistake”.
Ontario’s health minister said his province stands by its commitment to take up to 10,000 Syrian refugees through 2016.
The exact number has not yet been decided, but it will be a “significant” percentage of the 25,000 nationwide, Eric Hoskins said.
With terror attacks in Paris carried out by “refugees” and terrorists found among “refugees” in Italy, Germany and at the Calais border crossing from France to Britain, it has become obvious that there is real danger to rushing the refugee settlement. His health minister, Jane Philpott, said the government is being mindful of health and security concerns while working to address the urgent refugee crisis. But Canada’s health minister signaled Monday the Liberal government remains committed to the goal. “So while Paris is a tragic situation… we have always known there are risks involved in this but we have always said we will be responsible and we will be address those risks in a responsible way”.
Wall said that Trudeau’s goal is “laudable”, and Saskatchewan has increased the amount of refugees that it would be willing to accept, but “we just got to make sure we do it right”.
But despite all this, Canadians are told not to worry, we can bring in 25,000 refugees in a matter of days from a civil war zone and terrorist hot spot and not put our safety at risk.
Wall’s words were harsher than those of others, but B.C. Premier Christy Clark also emphasized Monday that the federal government’s first job is to ensure Canadians’ security.
Ambrose said that the government needs to present a “transparent” plan to Canadians in order to “reassure” them.
“We have a cabinet committee that is (working) directly on these issues to do exactly what Canadians expect Canada to do, which is welcome in refugees who are fleeing a awful, bad conflict in Syria, but to do so in way that keeps Canadians and their communities safe”, said Trudeau.
“Usually one miss out of 25,000 would be acceptable for government, for business or nearly any organization”.
One concern of those waiting to resettle refugees in Canadian cities or on military bases is that there is little information about how it would be done, in part because Mr Trudeau was elected less than a month ago and is still hiring people to deliver on his election promise. That doesn’t mean they’re intolerant people.
