Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport revealed
Porsche has added a new sports vehicle for recreational and club racing to its fleet: The Cayman GT4 Clubsport celebrated its world premiere today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. At the rear is a tweaked, lightweight strut suspension with transverse arms adopted, again, from the 911 GT3 Cup.
If the standard Porsche Cayman GT4 feels just a little too mild for you, direct your attention to this new track-only hardcore version. The brake system features 380-millimetre steel brake discs all round.
Gifting the Cayman GT4 a few genuine “derived from motorsport” credibility was probably not entirely necessary given they’ve not exactly struggled to shift them as-is but it can’t do any harm the car’s already stellar reputation. One-piece, six-piston aluminum fixed calipers are located at the front, with a four-piston equivalent at the rear. The anti-lock braking system can configured through twelve different settings. It still has Electronic Stability Control, although it’s been tweaked to allow for slick tyres. The power steering is operated electro-mechanically.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport tips the scales at 1,300kg (2,866 pounds), and it features a 90-liter stand tank, with buyers having the option of 70- or 100-liter FT3 safety tank.
In the stripped-out cabin, you’ll find a roll cage, a single racing seat and a six-point harness.
Pricing comes in at US$165,000, but if you want one here in Canada you have to go through Porsche Motorsports North America and pay the applicable importing taxes. A few quirks of making the GT4 into a racing vehicle include ditching the signature manual gearbox in favour of a six-speed PDK transmission and running a bit of sidewall on the 18-inch, Michelin shod five-stud wheels. The new coupe, not legal for road use, will be homologated for race series like the VLN Long Distance Championship Nurburgring, Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canadar and the PCA Club Racing Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy, as well as more local events.
