Warriors survive Nets’ upset bid, win 107-99 in overtime
Stephen Curry had his league-leading seventh game with at least 30 points, and Andre Iguodala made all of the crunch-time plays, including a game-tying three-pointer with 5.9 seconds left in regulation, as the Warriors needed overtime to beat Brooklyn 107-99 at Oracle Arena. Ultimately they couldn’t close the game out as LeBon James, who played 45 minutes, missed two of his three shots and committed two turnovers in the final extra period. “We really didn’ have much going for us and they played well. He stepped up with a big-time shot”.
But the man who may have saved the Warriors on this night was center Andrew Bogut, who was a beast in 32 minutes off the bench – 10 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots.
“The great thing about Draymond is all you have to do is challenge him and he’ll step up”, Walton said. But in reality, they have done a good job handling the basketball. Green recorded his second career triple-double with 16 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for Golden State. In all but two games this season the Warriors have led at the end of the first quarter; one of the two instances came against Memphis, a team they ended up beating by 50 points. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson grabbed a season-best 13 rebounds.
“No one wants to work hard or put the type of work we put in to not come out with a victory”, Jack said. “It’s time to do something about this.’ Eventually, we started competing on defense”. Curry penetrated the Brooklyn defense for a layup that gave the Warriors their first lead of the second half with 4:37 to go, and forward Harrison Barnes followed with a 10-footer that upped the lead to 88-85. It took an Andre Iguodala three-pointer with 5.9 seconds left to deny them the win.
“I don’t know what to say about that”.
“I hate to lose, obviously”, Joe Johnson said. “It’s a long flight home so it’s not going to be fun”. Such was the case Saturday, with Curry matching his fourth-highest scoring total of the season despite his third-worst shooting performance from three-point range to date in the new campaign.
With Walton resting most of his starters to begin the fourth, Golden State pulled away with a 10-0 run.
The Nets had as much as a 17-point lead in the second quarter and led 77-70 after three quarters. Young responded with a jumper to give the Nets a 54-52 halftime lead.
Through this point a year ago, Curry had made more than 20 less three pointers. The numbers are against them, and if I was betting my money, it would also be against them, but it isn’t a given that they can’t win 70 or more games.
“It’s a pretty special moment for my family”, Stephen Curry said.
One idea that’s been casually mentioned, but never implemented (to our knowledge) is the Hack-A-Curry, where defences could intentionally foul Curry, put him on the free throw line, and get the ball back. Even with the absence of their head coach, Steve Kerr, the Warriors are hammering their opponents, one team at a time. “The National Basketball Association is such a global game that it touches home even when it’s not on US soil”. The Hawks have won the last six in the series.
And while people have frequently talked about how loaded the Warriors are, they are much more dependent on Curry’s offensive capabilities than people realize. The Warriors’ decision to give SG Klay Thompson the night off came after he couldn’t shake a stiff back at the morning shootaround….
