Cam Newton Named NFC Offensive Player Of The Week
It was a green outline of the state of North Carolina, with a Packers logo in the middle, that read “North Carolina Cheesehead”.
Before Sunday’s game against Green Bay at Bank of America Stadium, Newton noticed a group of fans holding a Packers banner from the front row of one of the end zones.
Chris Baker says there’s only one explanation for his grandson getting a football from Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton at last Sunday’s game, and it had to do with the boy’s late father.
“You’re not about to sit up here and sell a Whopper at no McDonalds, know what I’m saying?”
Well, as far as Mike Dobs is concerned, Newton disrespected him.
Dobs says the banner cost $500 to have made. They thought he was coming over to sign the banner, all in good sport and fun.
“I was just shocked, shocked”, Dobs told the Fayetteville Observer. “Am I going to be on the big screen or am I going to be on TV?’ I was jumping up and down like, ‘Yeah!'”
According to ESPN, Newton said he felt it was his duty to remove the sign. So he took it upon himself and took action. “I had the easy opportunity there for a pitch-and-catch touchdown but I got scared by something, I can’t explain it. It was a mistake by myself”.
The Panthers actually have a specific stadium policy that bans banners for opposing teams, but allows handheld signs.
Nobody was sure what to make of the Carolina Panthers after they lost standout wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to a season-ending knee injury in the preseason.
Yes, the Panthers took care of their business against the Packers on Sunday – but it wasn’t really in great taste, all the way around. Cam’s been talked to, and we are reaching out to the other party.
“We had an opportunity for a pitch-and-catch touchdown, and I got scared by something”, Rodgers said.
“We thought he was going to sign our banner – we were happy to see him – and he ripped it out of our hands”, Dobs said.
Cam Newton threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score, and the Panthers took an important step toward securing home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs with a 37-29 win over the Packers.
Baker said Colin was playing with the ball in the yard of his home and worrying his family because they would like to keep the ball as pristine as possible.
