Jacksonville Jaguars eke past Ravens in game nobody wanted to win
The Jaguars were able to get in position for a 53-yard field goal thanks to someone grabbing the face mask of Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles. The Jaguars were not all set at the line before Dumervil committed the facemask penalty (left tackle Luke Joeckel was the culprit, via Adam Schefter of ESPN). Because a game can’t end on a penalty by the defense, the Jaguars got the ball at the 35.
In a mistake-filled game for the Baltimore Ravens, the final miscue hurt the most.
Baltimore Ravens tight end Crockett Gillmore, right, makes a touchdown catch in the first half an NFL football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sunday, November 15, 2015, in Baltimore. And that’s exactly what Jason Myers did with 0:00 left on the clock.
They finally took advantage, and did so in miracle fashion – and in unbelievably wild, improbable fashion as well.
“I don’t know what else you can say about that”, Harbaugh said.
Not often, that’s for sure. Instead, the play was allowed to continue, and an Elvis Dumervil personal foul moved the Jaguars into range for the game-winning field goal.
Against the Ravens, the Jaguars managed a season-low 258 yards, missed a 26-yard field goal – the shortest miss in the National Football League this season – and scored just three points off three turnovers in the third quarter. However, an ill-advised 4th-and-4 conversion attempt was squandered by Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny.
Long after the final whistle, the Jaguars players were whooping and laughing in their locker room.
Today’s Baltimore Ravens vs Jacksonville Jaguars NFL football game has a start time schedule of 1:00pm eastern time and airs on TV channel CBS in a few markets along with DirecTV Sunday Ticket nationwide.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh was obviously disappointed. (Not the first time I’ve thought I might need new glasses.) Though he described the turn of events as “disappointing” and “gut wrenching”, he pretty much took it in stride, saying that’s “just the way it goes”. Blake Bortles has thrown at least two scoring passes in a franchise record-tying four consecutive games.
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT: Baltimore has lost its seven games by a combined total of 32 points.
“I saw zeros on the clock so I started jumping up and down”, cornerback Jimmy Smith said. “I kicked it and split second [later] I fall over him and then I was on my back looking up at the Jumbotron behind me”. There was a flag.
“I think that’s a valuable lesson for him”, Bradley said so Bortles doesn’t feel like he has to carry the team. He completed 34 of 45 passes for 316 yards with three touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble.
Baltimore hasn’t been 2-7 since 2005, when Kyle Boller was quarterback and Brian Billick was the coach. This one could be up to the rested Raven’s defense, as offensively they may not have all the necessary weapons to fully exploit Jacksonville’s weakness.
It’s not that I’m mad the team won because of any agenda or belief, but the fact that I had already gone through the slew of emotions that come when the Jaguars were in the middle of squandering yet another game they should have won during the 2015 season.
