Emphasising that the two main challenges facing the world were terrorism and global warming, Modi called for collective responsibility to tackle them.
Before Modi took to the stage, the audience was treated to a lavish spectacle featuring rapper Jay Sean, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Scottish bagpipers.
Nirmala Rajasingam, one of the protest organisers, said: “We have been protesting against the Modi government for a very long time because the matters of Gujarat atrocities have not been settled yet. There’s a burgeoning middle class, there is an aspirational upper class that wants to educate its kids overseas and it’s an opportunity to tap into what has become a big economic market”, the Prime Minister said. Wherever people of India have gone, they live in harmony.
