Arsenal’s Arsène Wenger concerned over Laurent Koscielny after Paris attacks
It was a huge shock for our country and our football.
Wenger said: “I feel the country can provide”.
The Football Association implemented a number of tributes to remember the victims of the attacks, which included displaying the lyrics to La Marseillaise so that English fans could join their French opponents in an act of unity, and Wenger admitted it was like nothing he had seen before as the two nations – old rivals on the field – came together as one. It has all affected him deeply.
“You always think after this kind of event, ‘Do you continue to play or do you stop your life?’ For me they (the organisers) made the right decision and the event on Tuesday night has shown it was the right decision”, Wenger said.
“I will not play him, you have to trust the player”, Wenger told a press conference on Friday when asked if Koscielny would feature if he wasn’t 100 percent focused.
“We have to get on with life and respond in a positive way”. I have not talked to him yet, but I will talk to him to see if he is completely recovered and focused.
“Nobody in France has found an answer or a real explanation for what’s going on and why”, he said. Football, going out, listening to music.
“I am more anxious that it could divide the society and create a few tensions inside the country that could damage the tolerant and multi-cultural society”.
France is scheduled to host the European Championship finals next summer.
The Premier League is considering playing the French national anthem before all matches this weekend as a mark of respect. “I was on the plane back to France when it happened”.
Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has suggested that the club’s injury list could affect their chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
Wenger confirmed that injured duo Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would miss the game, but that right back Hector Bellerin was available.
Wenger also played down reports that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are on the verge of signing new contracts at Emirates Stadium.
Joel Campbell is likely to be given another chance in the first time on the right of attack in the absence of Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain, although 19-year-old Alex Iwobi could also be in contention.
