Toffees consider deal for ex-Aston Villa defender Ron
The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Everton are weighing up a possible deal for former Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar.
There has been talk of the Barclays Premier League champions trying again in the January transfer window, and of the 21-year-old interesting Barcelona.
“We’re not in a position where we have to make financial decisions (like that)”.
He added: “I am not anxious at all – our best players will not be leaving in January”.
Ahead of this weekend’s Barclays Premier League clash with the midlands outfit at Goodison Park, Martinez told Everton’s website: “Tom is fully fit now”.
“We don’t look on it as a window to be really involved whether that’s buying or selling, it’s more a matter of continuity”.
Holland worldwide Vlaar is a free-agent after his contract expired at Aston Villa in the summer and is close to recovering from knee surgery, while young starlet Stones has recently been linked with Barcelona and was the subject of a number of bids from Chelsea in the off-season.
Vlaar boasts a wealth of experience and is said to be keen on spending the remainder of his career back in the Premier League.
“But at the moment it is not for me to mention about any other players apart from those we have in the squad”. I just had a little one with my groin in a training session, but you have got to expect these things.
The Daily Mail says Everton are ready to make an offer to Vlaar if he can prove his fitness.
Martinez has also revealed defenders Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway are both doubts for the Villa game due to minor knocks that saw them withdraw from the England Under-21s squad as a precaution.
